Arrowtown is a “must visit”. Tucked away at the end of a valley. It is known for its tranquility and charm. It is the perfect alternative to its busier neighbor Queenstown. The tree-lined avenues are not only picturesque but also serve to frame the town’s history. The town has managed to retain many of its heritage buildings.
The former gold mining town of Arrowtown is a living, historic holiday destination. Spectacular scenery and a tranquil atmospheric attract visitors.
Food has a special focus in Arrowtown from fine dining to international cuisine, name it and they will give it to you. You just have to be patient in finding the best food for your taste buds.
We spotted Jonesy’s Cafe and Bar. It is a stylish and spacious cafe. The outdoor eating area is a suntrap with umbrellas for shade. Dining at Jonesy’s you will feel the chill and nice decor from the inside. Queenstown is more of a cold place so you will see in every restaurant a fireplace.
The food took around 25 minutes to be served so before that I went on the other side of the cafe to check the fresh breeze of the water. To my surprise, it is the famous Arrowtown lake which people used to mine some gold around 1950.
Arrowtown was called “pure gold” because it is once a mining area in the 50s. And it is 150 years old already since the discovery of Gold. Coming back to the cafe with new learnings, and to my surprise, our food was delivered before the time given to us.
Venison Hot Pot – served with soft bread and mash potatoes. Venison is a meat part of deer. Better think twice, some people are not eating this kind of meat. It was tender, juicy and the sauce was not that too salty and just compliments to our liking.
Lamb Shanks – the lamb was cooked perfectly. It is perfect with medium rare. It was served with a colorful choice of vegetables to blend with the lamb itself. Pork Ribs – off the hook! Once you have bitten it, it will easily peel off with the bones. The meat is okay, juicy on the inside, and paired with Jonesy’s very own sauce.
Steak (NZ is best for their Premium steak) – served with broccoli and cauliflower, added with mashed potatoes. This steak will forget you all the steak you have tasted before. I’m sitting on a cloud 9. This is the best of the cafe’s dishes that was served to us.
New Zealand, in particular, is good for food lovers. They have a lot of amazing restaurants around the country and one of them is found in the town of Queenstown, just 3 hours down south of Auckland. If you are heading down south, much better to check trip advisor for all the recommendable restaurants.
